ISLAND LIFE: Gal Dem

Galentines Day

Galentines’ Day (we know we know it’s also becoming highly commercialised but hey a day to hang with our girls it good for us) is a fairly new thing, it’s a celebration of female friendships sparked by an episode of American sitcom Parks and Recreation. Whilst it may have started as a joke, in light of the #MeToo movement and just a greater awakening to all the shit things that women have endured and simply taken on as part of being a woman, it’s become an annual feminist celebration and one we embrace.

If any of you out there squirm at the very word feminist then check out one of our favourite authors, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s book We Should All Be Feminists – it might just offer you a different perspective on what it means to be a feminist.

Here are a few things we wanted to share with you that we love to do with our gals dem.

Petit Salon de Té

Ever since our friend Hjordis’s elegant beautiful mama introduced us to her special blend of Lapsang Souchong (a softer milkier version of the hard smoky stuff) we’ve been hooked and can only drink it with Earl Grey infused cup cakes (baked by Master baker Hjordis herself).  To get our fix we head down to Petit Salon de Té, a dreamily delectable tea and cake shop, tucked in Ibiza Town. Drink different blends from candy coloured china accompanied by lashings of moist cake. Feel the happiness flow.

The Spa at Insotel Prestige

The Spa at Insotel Prestige in Siesta do amazing deals on a Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Featuring the usual variety of steam and sauna rooms as well as boasting a pretty impressive pool with hydra therapy jets ( careful where you stand a sudden blast can take you from pain to pleasure) it has to be said that our absolute favourite thing to do and the thing that has us squealing with laughter is to get all hot and then jump into the outside pool (especially under the full power beam of the moon) jumping out every so quickly once we have completed the quickest lap ever.

Bar Costa

We love the traditional pan y jamón here and of course bottles of full bodied red wine which we will be sipping/guzzling whilst looking up at the art filled walls and engaging in terribly intellectual discourse on the latest piece of literature or Netflix series we are watching.
